Chris has grown up around the optical business, both his mother and father have been opticians for a very long time and he found it a difficult subject to avoid. After graduating from Vanier in 1999 it was suggested that he work for his parents to earn a little bit of extra money. "Who would EVER want to do such a boring, stupid job!!??" he exclaimed, right before the allure of post graduation party money won him over. Very quickly the enticing stench of the "corporation" got into his blood, working for the largest optical chain in Canada, he buttoned up his collar and straightened his tie doing everything he was supposed to, to work his way up the ladder to middle management. Disillusioned after the corporate world came crashing down around his head, he was wandering the streets of Victoria searching for any job that would pay him AND treat him like human being. In October of 2002 Chris stumbled on to a little place called Goo Goo Goggles. At Goo Goo Chris learned that there is a different way to run a business and a different way to treat your customers. He managed the store for three years until he and his wife decided to move back to the Valley to raise their children and open the shop with his mom Diane.

Well, let's see........
I've been an optician since 1992, licensed since 1996 both for optical and contacts. I've worked in the field since 1975 in the days that receptionists were around. I filled in as a receptionist while going to university. My first career is teaching. I'm a primary school teacher and loved every minute teaching but quit to raise my own kids, then when back subbing but after moving to Comox Valley in 1992, did not want to sub any more. My husband, David, worked for an optical company as well and needed help so I began my optical career then. I've been in the valley since 1992 and worked for one company til 2002. Then, after big changes in my life, my husband and I began working for Walmart Vision center. David commuted every day to Port Alberni and I worked in Courtenay. After three long years, he transferred to Courtenay and I had to leave. That's when Chris, my son, convinced me it was time to open our own optical store. So........here we are, Cockeye'd Optical. David is still at Walmart and Chris and Jesse moved from Victoria to Courtenay with my two adorable grandchildren. Our youngest son is living in Vancouver and has just completed his two year hairdressing training. Working with Chris is a joy, it has it's challenges of course, but what more could I ask for.
Born March 19th, 1990. Kong was raised by a good ninja master who lived in the sewer, to fight an evil ninja clan. After defeating the evil ninja leader in hand to beak combat, in a battle too epic to be described with words, Kong re-located to Courtenay BC to retire. He found a small cage in Courtenay Nursery, a small pet and plant store, and decorated it with his humble belongings. The McPherson family came into the pet store one day to begin a search for a small bird for Chris' 13th birthday. Chris ended up with a nice small bird, and David, patriarch of the family, left with this ball of barely contained ninja energy. When the McPherson family opened up their business, it was decided that the best protection for their shop, were the vast ninja skills that only Kong possessed. Since beginning his work at the shop, he has received job offers from both Batman, and Chuck Norris, but has turned them both down in favour of his family and friends here in Courtenay.
